Ombretta’s Vegetable Garden.

🇬🇧  In Ombretta’s garden, the scent of summer is already in the air, along with the promise of days to come.

Tender spring onions have sprouted in unexpected abundance, glossy chard, crisp romaine lettuce fresh as morning, delicate and fragrant chives, cucuzza squash stretching curiously toward the sun, broccoli, parsley, thyme, marjoram, Tunisian basil, lettuce-leaf basil, and even an ornamental basil—originally uninvited—which now, rather vainly, shows itself off among the other plants.

The secret behind the abundance of this garden—perhaps its greatest magic—is certainly the way Ombretta approaches every living being, whether plant, animal, or person: with gentleness, respect, and wonder. Because this is her way of being in the world. And so the plants grow lushly, almost in gratitude.

And when harvest time comes, Ombretta experiences it almost with reluctance, because she feels sorry to part with what she has watched grow day after day. She gathers every leaf, every scent, and every fruit with the same kindness she reserves for people, because her grace never changes.

Anyone who passes through Ombretta’s garden, even for a brief moment, takes away something invisible but precious: the feeling that kindness can still change the world, one small wonder at a time.
